Butterfly bushes, otherwise known as Buddleia, are flowering shrubs that produce cone-shaped blossoms in late summer and early fall. On average, these blooming shrubs grow between 5 and 12 feet tall, with dwarf varieties ranging from 2 to 3 feet tall. With many different cultivars, the flowers range from white and yellow to orange, pink, violet, and purple.
Their blooms have a honey-like fragrance and are rich in nectar, making them highly attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, moths, and other pollinators. Hardy in zones 5 to 9, these shrubs prefer full to partial sun and bloom mid-summer to early fall.
